FREE FILEMAKER DEVELOPER TOOL · VERSION 1.0

Understand your solution.
Keep your DDR on your device.

Search fields, scripts and layouts. Follow references, inspect calculations, find missing references and search readable text across your XML Database Design Reports.

Open DDR Explorer ↗

No account, email gate or upload. DDR Explorer 1.0 is free.

Find where it is used.

Explore incoming and outgoing references. Filter by scripts, layouts, fields and other object types, with distinct-object counts.

Go to the exact location.

Highlight a referenced script step, copy object names, and inspect layout object bounds, keys and container paths.

Search any text.

Find variables, URLs, calculations, messages and descriptive settings. Read highlighted matches and export reference results as CSV.

Find missing references.

Review unresolved references across your imported reports. Filter by source type, file, text or resolution reason, navigate to the source, and export the filtered findings as CSV. A finding describes the imported DDR evidence; it does not prove runtime breakage.

Export your XML DDR.

  1. Open the database files in FileMaker Pro with full access. Enable Use advanced tools if needed.
  2. Choose Tools → Database Design Report. Include the files, tables and element categories you want to inspect.
  3. Select XML as the report format and create the report.
  4. Open DDR Explorer and select the database XML reports together. Include Summary.xml to check for missing files.

Use XML Database Design Reports, not HTML reports or Save a Copy as XML. Read the Claris export instructions.

Your first search in DDR Explorer.

  1. Import the reports. After exporting your XML DDR, choose all database reports together. Include Summary.xml to check for omitted files. Wait for the Ready message.
  2. Follow an object. In Objects, search for a field, script or layout. Select it, then use Used by for incoming references or Uses for outgoing references. Filter the results by object type and inspect a reference for its context.
  3. Search readable text. Choose Any text to look for a variable, message, URL or calculation fragment. A text match helps locate content; it does not establish a dependency.
  4. Review unresolved references. Choose Find missing references. Narrow findings by source type, database file, search text or resolution reason. Open a finding to inspect its source; script findings can take you to the highlighted step.
  5. Keep what you need. Copy object names or export the filtered findings as CSV. Clear project when finished. Clearing removes the in-memory project, but does not remove your downloaded CSVs or clipboard copies.

Unresolved findings can mean an omitted report, an unavailable definition or insufficient DDR context. They are not proof of a broken solution. Do not delete an object solely because the imported reports show no references.

Compatibility & limits.

Real-report regression coverage currently uses DDR version 22.0.6 from several exports of a multi-file solution. The owner also reports a successful test with a DDR generated by FileMaker 18; its exact patch version, browser and coverage were not recorded. Other DDR versions have not been verified. Browser test coverage includes desktop Chromium, Firefox and WebKit; this does not establish mobile or native FileMaker runtime compatibility.

Import up to 40 XML files and 512 MB total. Large reports require additional browser memory; start with a desktop browser. Cancel import or Clear project at any time.

The tool follows explicit DDR references. Dynamic names, Evaluate, SQL text and omitted reports may prevent complete dependency discovery. Unknown targets and missing definitions are labelled; an empty result is not a safe-to-delete assessment.

Any text searches readable XML content and descriptive attributes. It excludes binary/image resource subtrees, XML comments and numeric-only or boolean attributes. It does not match across separate XML nodes. Text matches do not establish dependencies.

Long definition displays and inspected excerpts are labelled when shortened. Indexing limits produce an error rather than a silently incomplete search.

Your project stays in the browser.

The analyzer reads the files you choose and processes them in a browser worker. It has no project upload endpoint, account, analytics, remote error reporting or cloud processing. It stores no project in cookies, local storage or IndexedDB.

Clear project, reload or close the tool to discard its in-memory project. Copies placed on your clipboard and CSVs you download remain under your control. The website still receives normal requests for application files; it does not receive your DDR content or searches. Filesoft’s ordinary site referral counters apply to this information page, not the analyzer.

This privacy summary applies specifically to DDR Explorer. The analyzer uses the locally bundled sax XML parser (Blue Oak license).

Help improve DDR Explorer.

Report a problem or suggest a feature. Include the browser, DDR version and steps to reproduce. Please do not send confidential DDRs or credentials; a small anonymized example is more useful.
